David Harris has been in China for over 7 years. He came here from his home in New Zealand in 2000 with a bachelor of science degree in Psychology and a minor in theatre and acoustics from the University Otago.
David’s creative spirit caught the interest of Commonfolk China after viewing his feature-length documentary covering a nation-wide China tour of the Beijing indie rock band PK 14. His skills as an editor brought him on board to edit Edward Burger’s newest documentary, “A Life in Shadows,” due for release this year.
David’s creative skills cross over a wide variety of mediums from music to film. Spanning the years 2004 to 2006, David’s work includes cameraman, writer, director, sound recordist and projectionist for diverse projects including the Live Earth concert in Shanghai, N.D.T.V in Beijing and the Naddam folk festival in Inner Mongolia. His filmmaking projects include music videos for the artist Mai Mai and Beijing indie rock band “PK14”. PK14’s video “Tamen” air on American MTV in 2005.
Lately Harris has worked as on-set translator to the director of Beijing feature film, “Waiting in Beijing” as well as Transport Captain and Picture Vehicle Co-ordinator for the DreamWorks Pictures production “The Kite Runner”.
Harris’ work as editor on Edward Burger’s “A Life In Shadows” and his intimate understanding of this place and community brings him to the Sounds of a Shadow project.
