Each year director Edward A. Burger travels to colleges and universities to screen Amongst White Clouds and discuss the film and his experience as the student of a Zhongnan hermit master. Burger's talk is entitled, "Redefining Solitude" - patterns of avoidance and insular behavior in society and the engaged, contemplative life of the hermit in the context of Chinese Buddhism.

"...an inspiring take on the human condition from within a profoundly different time and space.”

Michael Walsh, Vassar College

"...a beautiful film and brings these extraordinary people to life on the screen with a great deal of sensitivity."

Koichi Shinohara, Yale University

“...unobtrusively reveals their teachings as conversations with and among them. This film spares us the numerous clichés found in commercial films about Buddhism, anywhere."

H-Asia and Journal of Buddhist Ethics

Joanna Kirkpatrick Bennington College

“...may remind us of Chinese Zen poems....one could speak of the documentary as exemplifying a kind of Zen filmmaking..."
